The Franke Tower

Following the war between the Germans and the Herero and their allies that lasted from 1904-1907, the Germans opened this memorial in 1908 and dedicated it to honour the fallen German heroes of that conflict.

In 2008 at its centenary it was rededicated in the presence of the Herero King Christiaan Zeraua and Omaruru Mayor Mike Tjirare, to all the fallen heroes of both sides of the conflict. It is in honour of this rededication and the reconciliation that it represents that we publish this page.
 

On 1 April 1908 the Franke Tower was dedicated to all the fallen heroes of the 1904-1907 war. Pictured is the rededication at the Centennial 100 years later on 1 April 2008.
