The Arts, Music and Culture Festival

For the first time this year, to celebrate Omaruru’s first 100 years as a Municipality, the city is celebrating Omaruru’s Arts, Music and Cultural Heritage. The highlight of the Anniversary celebration were the speeches made by King Christiaan Zeraua and former Minister and local resident Dr. Ben Amadhila in which they both spoke highly of the heritage left us by the people of Omaruru in the past. Here on the 2nd and 3rd of October, we held a parade on main street (Wilhelm Zeraua Street) through the whole town from the Shell Station to Luna Park, where much of the Festival was held.

The Om Times quotes the Omaruru Chief Executive Officer, Werner Iita as saying, “To me it was a success and when we look at the comments from the public, it was successful. It was the first of its kind and we wanted to test the market, to see how people would respond. It surpassed my expectations.”

The Om Times continued by asking Mr Iita if the town would host a similar event next year. Mr. Iita said, “Definitely. The committee will come together and evaluate what we did right and what we can do better. I am confident that next year we will host an even bigger festival. The committee has more experience now.”

As this will be an annual activity in Omaruru, make sure you call ahead and make arrangements to overnight while in Omaruru, there is a limited amount of space. Check the page Where to stay.
